“Patrick” – CDN, UKC CH. Yasashiikuma I Am Not A Number

CDN/UKC CH. Yasashiikuma I Am Not A Number

Patrick is from the “Spy Litter” born on October 30, 2013. This litter was a c-section litter, so I told my vet Allison, as she was delivering them, I had to know who puppy #6 was so that I could name him after one of my favourite characters – Patrick McGoohan in “The Prisoner”.

When puppy #6 came out wearing a black jacket with white “trim” I knew the name I had chosen fit perfectly! the prisoner

He is the first of the puppies to finish a championship from the Spy litter (Am Ch. Joseter Grassanmore x Am GCH/Cdn GCH EX Yasashiikuma Smoky Mountn Maid, CGN, CGC, TDI, HIC, TT), and in fact has finished two by 16 months of age!

His career so far has been pretty fantastic.

Patrick smallAt the CWCCA National Specialty in 2014 he was entered in the Baby Puppy class, as he was not old enough for the Specialty. Judge Cathy Ochs-Cline narrowed down the babies to 2 boys and 2 girls from the Baby puppy class, unfortunately Patrick was not the winner, but he was close!

Fast forward three months to July, and Patrick finished his UKC championship in a single weekend with 4 Group 3’s and a Group 4. As a result he qualified for the 2015 UKC Premier show finishing the year as #4 Cardigan and qualifying for the Top 10 competition.

In August we attended a couple of Corgi specialties. First we flew out to Calgary for the CCCC National Specialty.

patrick ccccAlthough he only won Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes he did go reserve in 2 of the 4 all breed shows associated with the specialty.

Then we returned home and we immediately went down to the CWCCWR specialty in Ohio, and Patrick had another great weekend.

Specialty #1 judge Emily Fish found him for her Winners Dog for his first 4 point major.

Specialty #2 judge Leah James awarded him Reserve Winners Dog to another 4 point major.

Then for the following two days at the all-breed shows he was again Reserve Winners under Andrea Georgi, and then Best of Winners for a second 4 point major under Carrie Chase.

His final show for 2014 was the Oakville Kennel Club show, where he was awarded Best of Breed by Pam Bruce for his first Canadian points.

Patrick then took a few months off while I concentrated on another dog that I had up here for a short time to breed to Dolly.

Spring arrived and with it the return of some local shows Patrick attended two weekends of shows locally and finished his Canadian Championship under Frances Smith of Buenos Aires, Argentina (photo above).

Whereas usually I am tyring to pick out the best from bad photos from shows, in this instance I had trouble picking between the two shots of Patrick because they were both good and I had trouble deciding between the 3/4 head shot that shows his deep expression, or the full profile which showed his beautiful arch of neck! So thankfully Chantal, from Dogs in Design was able to give me the best of both!

We shall now see what 2015 has in store for him. He won’t be specialled this year but will show at a few specialties in the U.S. where he is still in the classes, to give him some time to finish growing up.
