Happy 16th Birthday Hunter!

He’s a little greyer, a little slower, but Hunter is still doing very well at 16!   I’m glad spring has been early this year, so there is less worry about him dealing with the snow and ice.   His birthday present should also be arriving today or tomorrow – a ramp so he can get on and off the back deck by himself without doing what I call his “leap of faith”- jumping blindly into mid-air and hoping the ground isn’t too far away.  I won’t have to worry about him doing himself an injury when I’m not there to watch him.

Happy birthday old man from me and all of your kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

A final CWCCA video

The first dog in this video clip of the Parade of Title Holders is Hunter – the grand old guy is now 15!   He sure doesn’t look it :)

Hunter’s and his descendants had a great specialty

He was 3rd in Veterans 11+ (the next youngest dog being 2 years younger) and 2nd in Stud Dog.

His daughter Dolly was Select Bitch and Award of Merit.  Sons Chase and Pilot were Best Brindle dog in Megan, and Award of Merit.

A Hunter grandaughter was Winners Bitch.  Grandson Dragoon was Open Dog.  I’m not sure what other awards went to his descendants – but I think this was a pretty impressive list on its own!

Six week old pictures

The puppies have now reached six weeks and today was a very busy day with toenail cutting and worming.   For the past week the puppies have been learning about a variety of raw foods.   They started out weaning with a ground chicken and vegetable mixture, combined with Evo.   Now that they have the idea of chewing mastered they are getting we started out with sections of chicken carcasses that they could carry around like prey.   It was funny watching them “kill” their food, shaking it until THEY were satisified it was dead.  (I feel for the chicken if it was still alive in the freezer before I cut it up!)

I am not sure whether Naomi was trying to make a statement here or not.

As well as chicken, they have had beef marrow bones, and venison chunks.  They seem to be handling all of it well.    The puppies still look so similar that only small differences identify them to those that know them all.   Jib (in the top right corner of the photo below) and Naomi (the headless body) are more identifiable because they are darker than the others, and Jib has the triangular sail on the back of her neck while Naomi has a zig-zag on the back of hers.

Grace (in the center) has a line over the top of her head,

In the center of the photo below is Naomi – her facial markings are more symetrical than Jib’s.Behind her is Skipper, with the big white collar and full white tip on his tail.

Next we have Jessica (with the freckles), along with Captain in the bottom right corner who can be identified by the unique marking on the top of his head.  In the bottom left is either Skipper or Jenny (I need to see the tail to be sure!)

The puppies have now increased their play space with the addition of a 5 foot square pen.  They still attempt a jailbreak at every available opportunity.  Look at the puppy sittinng up on the left – the one sitting behind the three on the right – and the right one in the group of three….how would YOU tell them apart!

Here are Jib and Jenny sharing a marrow bone.  Jenny is identified by the white line going down from her collar towards her tail, and the very tiny tip on her white tail.   Jib of course has the sail on her neck.

On a closer view you can see the one behind in this photo is Jessica – because of her freckles.   :)

I gave the puppies a box of shavings so that they can begin to toilet train themselves.  Unfortunately they haven’t quite got the idea yet, although some are trying to use it for the purpose intended.

Skipper decided that he wanted to send an email to someone while I was busy shooting other pictures today, or was that “PlayPuppy” he was trying to browse.    I am definitely going to have to watch his browsing time.

And here is the Abominable SnowCorgi – aka Hunter – the Grandfather of the puppies.   For those who were following Hunter’s recovery from Idiopathic Vestibular Disease – he has pretty well totallly recovered.  The only thing that hasnt come back is his “bark, bark, bark” when he wants out…however, I don’t miss that at all!

Western Reserve Day 2

Saturday was a bit of a repeat of Friday, but the final results were mixed, better in Sweeps, worse in the breed.

Amigo - Best of Opposite in Sweepstakes

Chaverah - 1st - 9-12 month sweeps

Both Amigo and Chaverah were first in their Sweepstakes classes under Susan Lasilla, and Amigo was awarded Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps – way to go little man!

Dragoon - Reserve Winners Dog

Poor Dragoon, was once again Reserve Winners Dog, this time to a different 6-9 month puppy.   He must be feeling like the bridesmaid who is never a bride.  This is his THIRD Reserve Winners in the last 4 Western Reserve specialties!

Although Dolly made the cut for bitches, she didn’t even get an award of merit.  Hunter came second in the stud dog class (a mixed emotion since Amigo was progeny of the 1st place Harvey), and Rocky again won the Brood Bitch Class.

I think this was Hunter’s last specialty to actually compete in the classes.  He can still go into the parade at the National but there are a lot of young veterans now who can outmove him.  Just don’t tell him he’s old, he hasn’t figured it out yet.
