Meet the Family – Am/Cdn Ch. Yasashiikuma Friend of Mine, SJATD

Today’s puppy is Amigo – Am/Cdn Ch. Yasashiikuma Friend of Mine – from the “Friends” litter – fostered by Carrie

Amigo 1

Amigo comes from the Friendship Litter, born in October 2009. After a career earning both American and Canadian championships and living in both Ohio and with Shelley in Dundalk, Amigo came to Carrie & Pete at the age of 2 to live an urban life in Toronto.

 Amigo 3

Amigo is making it mission in life to live up to his name. His first task was to be a friend to his grandma, Gale, who was mourning the loss of her sister, Megan. He rejuvenated her life encouraging her to play, engage, and walk further. His next task is to be our amazing little dude. He is a true cuddle master and you can definitely see Hunter’s legacy in him.

Amigo 2Finally, he is a “dog with a job”: using his gentle, zen temperament and desire to love in order to provide stress relief at Toronto universities, colleges, and high schools as a Therapy Dog with St John Ambulance.

 Amigo 5

Amigo is also an out-tripper. Donning his very own life-jacket, he accompanies us on canoe trips. He loves the chance to run a bit wild and keep the campsites free of chipmunks. His only regret is he’s too short to see above the rim of the canoe when he’s in it! Corgi problems.

Amigo’s grown up

Once upon a time there was an adorable little puppy.

He loved to play in the snow, and go for runs on the beach.

At 5 months went to his first match-the CWCCWR Spring Puppy Match.

He had a great day coming home with Best In Match. That was his preparation for his first show – the American National specialty.

In the very first class of the show, Amigo won the 6-9 month class in puppy sweeps :)

That summer Amigo went to two more specialties.

At the Canadian National Specialty in Edmonton, Alberta, Amigo won Best Puppy and Reserve Winners Dog. After that he went to live with his co-owner Debbie Brooks in Ohio.

At the Western Reserve Specialty and won his class under Simon Parsons of the UK. He and Dragoon were also pulled against each other for Reserve Winners Dog which went to Dragoon.

Over the next year Amigo finished his American Championship, and this summer he came home to complete his Canadian Championship. Unfortunately, due to a lack of competition it took a while to get it done, but he finished this month and the photo is below.

Since Amigo is not a happy camper in the show ring, he won’t be going on to compete for his Grand Championship.  Instead he has gone to retire and live with his grandmother in Toronto.

Whilr Gale is taking comfort from having Amigo there after the loss of her half-sister, Megan last month, he is also taking years off her by getting her active again as you can see in the video of Amigo & Gale Frapping
