Family photos

The mailbox has been very, very busy this week…..

Here are Cai and Fergus newly transplanted to Saint John, New Brunswick. They are making sure to observe local regulations too! Such good boys!

Although I’m going to miss having their family local for visits, I’m sure they are all going to be happy on the east coast. And its not that far that a visit will be impossible.

Travelling down to Texas…Pete has a new sister, and a Bonnie lass she is, too! In fact that is her name :) Pete has welcomed her into the family just like he welcomes everyone, as a potential new friend.

From down the penninsula Vicky has sent some pictures of Leeloo (Jaime’s sister formerly known as Austin) and Jon. It seems the two of them like to have high vantage points for sentry duty. Leeloo prefers the table as her post…

….while Jonathon prefers a higher vantage point.

When sentry duty is done its time to recharge the batteries.

I think this attraction to heights is some sort of family trait!

The Graduate

He is not impressed by the mortarboard, but we’re impressed with him. Vicky, Jon’s foster mother, has been taking him to obedience school and he graduated with an A+!

I had to laugh when Vicky writes:”We did look, sit, down, wait, heel, take it, leave it, drop it and lots of walking with pauses and turns, etc. He’s an amazing walker. He’s not fond of drop it/leave it when it is a food object involved. :D But it’s not really fair because the teacher uses liver! We would laugh though because she would throw toys at them and they’d have to leave them and we’d have to keep saying it during a talk. So Jonathon used the toy as a pillow instead and went to sleep.”

Good boy Jon!

A month’s worth of photos

So many wonderful supportive emails have arrived, and so many happy photos of our canine grandchildren. In a step to return to a more positive mode, here are some of the recent photos that have arrived in the emailbox.

CASSIE (formerly Sparky from the Fire Crew)

Hasn’t he grown into a handsome boy. No longer the tiny little bottle fed puppy that we had concerns about!
He looks very much like Rocky in the face, and you would almost think that he was her baby with that gorgeous sabling, instead of Cinder’s. Maryse writes that he started school on October 20th and will hopefully learn some obedience :)

EMBER (formerly Reba from the Fire Crew)

Karen had a great background for this shot with the fall colours matching Embers beautiful red coat. Karen writes, “She is being a bit of a handful right now but I am being very tough on her and she is responding. She knows what I want but she has a mind of her own. You once described her as a “Devil in a dog’s suit” and I think you were right on the money ;-) .”

Hmmm….do I sense a theme developing in this litter?

PETE (from the Repeaters)

As you can see Pete has a tough life. He has to share the couch with his brothers ;-)

Actually the dog on the left, IS his half brother Cappy. Cappy is a Hunter son, and a litter brother to Gale – Pete’s grandmother, so he’s also his great-uncle. Rudy, in the center is his playmate and Deirdre has sent many photos of the two of them playing together. And Pete, in this photo was still doing the flop-ear thing like Sam. Sam’s are up now, hopefully Pete’s are also!

QUINCY (formely Corey from the Repeaters)

Quincy has become a little “surfer dude” in California. He went to live with Gwen and Dennis and she’s sent pictures of him upon arrival after his long flight, and on his first trip to the beach with Daddy. He was a good boy on the flight – arriving in a clean crate – amazing when he went literally went across the continent! He spent his first week learning the dog parks and beach with his new “Nanny” Lily, a senior Cardigan who is teaching him the ropes. Unfortunately he’s confined to quarters now for 2 weeks while his “tutoring” heals. Gwen has gotten Quincy his own domain name and when she has some pictures up I’ll share the URL.

JONATHON

Jon has gone to live with Vicky and Pat, and his cousin Leeloo. Leeloo is Jaime’s litter sister and was the puppy known as “Austin”. She has as much fun with a soccer ball as he does, and Vicky writes that the two of them are continuously playing and wrestling and entertaining each other. When they have worn each other out they share the couch to recharge for the next round. He looks happy, and that is what I wanted for him.

Taking a second to breathe…

Hi all,

Well life definitely has a way of throwing curve balls when you least expect it Things had been far too uneventful in life for it to continue that way for long.

I thought September 2001 was the worst month ever with Bill and my father dying within 17 days of each other. September 2008 is not all that far behind with Chris spending all but single days in and out of the hospital. The bad news is that he is sick, very sick. The good news is that, hopefully, modern medicine can deal with the multiple issues, a donor can be found and in time he will recover.

The ambulance in the driveway waking me up at 3 a.m. was a wake up call in more ways than one this morning and it is time to make some serious decisions about how we will handle the upcoming medical odyssey.

I mentioned that we were going to be looking at placing some of the dogs. I’ve tried to get pictures but without a photographer’s assistant and running to emergency rooms every weekend its been tough.

So here is what I was able to come up with.

First here is Corey – Yasashiikuma Encore Performnce (Click on the pictures to enlarge them)

Yes, he’s a stunning boy and should have been a show puppy, but he has one testicle. It’s a heartbreak but it is time to let him go to a home where he will be someone’s well loved pet. He had both at 7 weeks according the vets notes, but not recently.

This is the pedigree for both Corey and Sam

Then we have Corey’s litter brother Sam – Yasashiikuma Play it Again Sam

I couldn’t get a decent side shot of Sam…he was too busy running everywhere! He has better body length and a deeper brisket than Corey and is a good clean little mover. His right ear is up, his left 3/4 up (I need to tape it again, once again lack of hands isn’t helping!). I woiuld be willing to consider a co-ownership for Sam if the right situation was found with the right person. He doesn’t have as much flash as Corey, but has better bone, and has been the choice of most people who have gone over them.

And then we have Jonathon – Yasashiikuma Highway to Heaven

Jon just turned two and he has Canadian championship points. He is a willing and loving male, who only wants to do what you ask. When he is on lead his eyes never leave your face looking for clues as to what you might want him to do. He is an avid soccer player and will chase one of his Jolly balls around the yard throwing it with his head, and dribbling it around the other dogs. Libby is starting to pick up his joy in the game, but has no where near his talent!

I think Jon would make someone a wonderful obedience or agililty prospect. He should also finish his championship once his chest drops (he’s taking his time maturing), but that isn’t as important as finding the right home for him. Ideally a fenced yard where he could continue to play soccer, and a single dog home or with a female would be perfect.

As for children, Jon is fine around children who sit and pet him, but he doesn’t play well with yelling, screaming, running children. He thinks it is a herding game, and chasing and barking scares them so they run faster and he gets more excited, in an increasing spiral. A young teen interested in having a companion he’s perfect for. He’ll sit in the grass and lean against you as you contemplate the world. He sits with my 5 year old grandaughter as she pats him, so its not a dislike of children, just a confusion on how to play with them.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in any of these boys please drop me a line. Calls are okay, but realize that between work, the hospital, and the animals its getting more and more difficult to catch me near a phone.

Thanks!
